IMPORTANT: We have moved our tools to our new site, Path of Exile Builds. This is also where you can download the new Experience Tracker to work with the latest version of Path of Exile.

Welcome to Tools of Exile!

Tools of Exile is dedicated to providing you with software to enhance your Path of Exile experience. A few examples of our offerings include an experience per hour calculator and an in-game clock. We also provide several web applications such as our experience penalty calculator to give you quick access to otherwise-complex data.

Please note that we will never offer any tools that give you an unfair advantage over other players. This means that we will never develop bots or hacks for Path of Exile. Our goal is simply to enhance the playability of Path of Exile while still maintaining a fair environment for everyone.

A note about the legality of these tools...
February 14, 2013 - 10:07PM EST

Wow, reddit sure has caused this site to flourish! In the last 20 hours or so, we've had over 4000 unique hits. Several hundred people have also downloaded the experience calculator and clock, while thousands more have made use of the other web-based tools. It's satisfying to know that this site has helped so many people thus far!

With that said, the hottest topic surrounding this site right now is whether or not you'll get banned from Path of Exile, so I have decided to write a small article regarding this matter.

Let me start by saying that the in-game clock, experience charts, and experience penalty calculator have absolutely, positively nothing to do with Path of Exile legalities in any way. You can run these programs without the game even being open.

That leads us with the experience per hour calculator. This tool works a little different from everything else found on this website. The program runs in the background on your computer and passively reads data from the Path of Exile game client itself. This data is then interpreted by the program, then finally displayed to you in an overlay. The data is obtained by reading the Path of Exile process' "memory". This simply means that it is obtaining data that is temporarily stored on your computer - almost like reading a text file.

There is a lot of legitimate software out there that also reads the memory of all the processes running on your computer, with anti-virus software being the most common. Anti-virus software scans these processes to look for malicious activity. So, for example, if you're running McAfee, it's going to do the same thing to the Path of Exile client as the experience per hour calculator. What does that mean? The calculator isn't detectable. At all. I promise.

Several people have cited messages from Chris, CEO of Grinding Gear Games, stating that this tool is "bannable". That's true because technically, all third party software (hint: with regard to Path of Exile, even your Windows operating system is considered third party software!) is "bannable". But there's a difference between "we can ban you" and "we will ban you".

I believe Chris' statement was made more for security/liability reasons than anything else. After all, he would not likely want to endorse software in which he has no idea as to whether or not it will steal your account username/password. Luckily for you, I've provided the source code to all my software, so there's no way I can get your account information.

Ultimately, the choice is yours as to whether you believe this post is truthful. But I can tell you that I've been in this scene for nearly 8 years now and am extremely confident in what you can get away with, and what you cannot when it comes to making programs for online games.

With that said, I would like to once again thank you all for your continued support. I look forward to providing you with new products, as well as updates to old ones. Have fun in Path of Exile!

February 14, 2013 - 10:45AM EST

The Experience Calculator has received a new update.

Changelog:
- Added configuration settings. If needed, the program will generate a file called ExpCalcConfig.ini on startup. You can edit this file to suit your needs.
- Added a hotkey to toggle show/hide the interface. Default is F5.
- An icon now displays in the system tray (near your system clock). You can right-click this icon to exit the program without using any hotkeys.
- The source code is now packaged with the .exe file.
